ABOUT PALMERS GREEN ACTION TEAM

Our High Street is about more than just retail. It is the face of our local area, its identity. It is a place of work, a place to live; a place for members of our community to meet and socialise. It is the thoroughfare between our great parks, schools, public transport and places of worship.

The quality of public realm matters. Beauty matters. Service matters. Community matters. The benefits of a thriving and cherished high street are felt by shoppers and by businesses, both of which are the drivers of our local economy.

Retail parks and shopping malls are places to buy things. High Streets are places to meet the neighbours, places to browse and shop, places to linger and relax and enjoy. Our local high street is increasingly the place we want to spend free time, have fun, be entertained, visit the cinema, hear live music or try new hobbies.

Everyone has a part to play. We promote shops which are specialists in their field, excel in service, are convenient and familiar. We love our varied cafes and restaurants which are often frequented, host our special occasions and our daily victuals. We enjoy our local pubs that are welcoming to everyone, from the sports fan to the gastropub foodie to the pub quizzer. We want our streets to be safe, accessible, attractive, clear of litter and graffiti and be well looked after. We are locals who support local businesses with their custom, are loyal, give feedback, don’t litter or park with disregard. We encourage our Council to provide shopkeepers with support and enforce policy on the quality of public realm and the public’s behaviour.

With its beautiful architecture, great accessibility and engaged locals and shopkeepers, Palmers Green has everything it needs to reach its full potential. We have a long history but we embrace the new. We combine tradition with innovation. We are a community with a unique and diverse identity, representing the best of London and we believe our high street should be at the very heart of this wonderful community.

Palmers Green Action team is a group of local volunteers who got together to help the high street thrive, make changes so that it could once again be the heart of the community and to make sure that local residents were represented when decisions were made for our high street.
